Evangelium Matt 9:9-13
In illo témpore: Vidit Iesus hóminem sedéntem in telónio, Matthǽum nómine. Et ait illi: Séquere me. Et surgens, secútus est eum. Et factum est, discumbénte eo in domo, ecce, multi publicáni et peccatóres veniéntes discumbébant cum Iesu et discípulis eius. Et vidéntes pharisæi, dicébant discípulis eius: Quare cum publicánis et peccatóribus mánducat Magíster vester? At Iesus áudiens,ait: Non est opus valéntibus médicus, sed male habéntibus. Eúntes autem díscite, quid est: Misericórdiam volo, et non sacrifícium. Non enim veni vocáre iustos, sed peccatóres.

Gospel Matt 9:9-13
At that time, Jesus saw a man named Matthew sitting in the tax-collector’s place, and said to him, Follow Me. And he arose and followed Him. And it came to pass as He was at table in the house, that, behold, many publicans and sinners came to the table with Jesus and His disciples. And the Pharisees seeing it, said to His disciples, Why does your Master eat with publicans and sinners? But Jesus heard it, and said, It is not the healthy who need a physician, but they who are sick. But go, and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, and not sacrifice.’ For I have come to call sinners, not the just.

Celebriamo la festa di un grande apostolo. Quando pensiamo agli apostoli pensiamo alla Chiesa.

Facciamo parte di questa grande famiglia per merito degli apostoli.

Siamo consapevoli che in cielo sia fa festa altrettanto! Non siamo solo noi a celebrare ma l’intero Paradiso! Le dodici tribu di Israele sono presenti!

La storia di Matteo e’ singolare. Chiamato da Gesu lo segue lasciando tutto! Lo Spirito Santo l’ha guidato.

Ha abbandonato la sicurezza del danaro (era un pubblicano).

Ma cos’ha di speciale Gesu?

Lo capiamo dall’episodio successivo durante il pranzo. I Farisei si stupiscomno che Gesu’ stia in mezzo ai pubblicani, ritenuti esseri inferiori. Ma i farisei si preoccupano solo dell’apparenza!

«Non i sani han bisogno del medico, ma i malati. Andate a imparare che significhi: “Misericordia voglio e non sacrificio”. Perché io non sono venuto a chiamare i giusti, ma i peccatori».

Questa apertura e’ straordinaria e conquista Matteo!

E’ l’amore di Dio!

We celebrate the feast of a great apostle. When we think of the apostles we think of the Church. We are part of this great family thanks to the apostles.

We are aware that there is just as much celebration in heaven! It is not only us who celebrate but the whole of Paradise! The twelve tribes of Israel are present!

Matteo’s story is unique. Called by Jesus, he follows him leaving everything! The Holy Spirit guided him.

He abandoned the security of money (he was a tax collector).

But what is special about Jesus?

We understand this from the next episode during lunch. The Pharisees are amazed that Jesus is among the tax collectors, considered inferior beings.

But the Pharisees are concerned only with appearance! «Not the healthy need the doctor, but the sick. Go and learn what it means: “I want mercy and not sacrifice”. Because I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners ».

This opening is extraordinary and wins over Matteo!

It is the love of God!
