(LifeSiteNews) — In the latest episode of The Bishop Strickland Show, Bishop Joseph Strickland discussed the importance of Confession and how it ties into reverently receiving Holy Communion. He also gave some suggestions on what Catholics should do this Advent.
Bishop Strickland explained that the sacraments of Confession and Communion are very much connected, and that the Church must become aware. “We’re talking about a revival of the Eucharist, and we desperately need it,” he said. “But we also need a revival of the sacrament of Confession.”

His Excellency mentioned that this Advent he wants to encourage an emphasis on the sacrament of Penance. He added that in the Church “for too long conversion hasn’t been emphasized, and what’s happened is less of a reverence for the Blessed Sacrament.”
Strickland encouraged every Catholic to take the sacrament of Communion very seriously, and with great humility confess any sin before receiving the body of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist. “If we receive Christ with with unconfessed mortal sins, then it’s like we’re blocking that grace of the Eucharist, and it’s a sacrilege,” he said.
The bishop called on Catholics to use the weeks in preparation for Christmas “to renew Confession in their life.” He stated that the sacrament is “a healing of our relationship with Jesus Christ, the son of God, and through Him, with the Father and the Spirit, that is the primary relationship we’re all called to live.”
